Exodus 27:20-30:10; Audio

Layman’s Note: Our prayers and offerings are likening to the fragrance of frankincense we do not have to burn incense to approach Yahweh. This work or pattern of service was given to the Levitical priesthood. Today incense is an allegory that points to our prayers and offerings while on the other hand there are still religious sects who practice incense burning as a way to approach their gods. This is not true for us for we have a sweet-smelling savior who stands before us and the Lord. In Christ we can now approach the everlasting Father by our prayers and with our offerings.

And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms (offerings, gifts) are come up for a memorial before God.” -Acts 10:4

“…bring it to Aaron’s sons the priests. The priest shall take a handful of the flour and oil, together with all the frankincense, and burn this as a memorial portion on the altar, an offering made by fire, a pleasing aroma to the LORD.-Leviticus 2:2

I have all I need and more, now that I have received your gifts from Epaphroditus. They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God.” -Philippians 4:18
